Imagine
a world where everyone was gay, and only a small minority of people had
heterosexual feelings and were forced to hide them for fear of
discrimination, bullying, abuse, even imprisonment in some places. In the wake of the phenomenal success surrounding the viral short film “Love Is All You Need?”, Writer/Director K. Rocco Shields CEO, Genius Pictures and producer Melke Pty Ltd have partnered with the Gay Lesbian Straight Education Network (GLSEN) and 501c3 organisaton From The Heart Productions to launch an Indie Gogo campaign to raise funds for the feature film of the same name.
Challenging our current conception of the terms ‘Gay’ and ‘Straight, the controversial short film switches not only the meaning of the terms but with it the social and cultural prejudicial responses, in particular the hate and the bullying.
So… what if Gay were straight and Straight were gay? The multiple award winning 19 minute Short which has generated over 30 million views through social media was produced to entice investment in the feature length “Love Is All You Need?”.
It tells the story of young teen Ashley who has a crush on a boy at school which goes against everything her world has ever taught her. Ashley’s undeniable attraction to the opposite sex causes her to be the constant target of verbal and shocking physical abuse by the other students at her school.
The feature film is based on a ‘Crash’ style of story telling interweaving multiple story lines featuring multiple sub plots.
